Predation Substitute Training

Your dog chases other things that move.
You have had that heart stopping moment when your dog disappears into the distance!
Every walk makes you feel anxious – just in case something might happen
Your recall works in the garden and in the house but never works when your dog is out in the countryside.
You want to build your relationship with your dog to have outside fun together – you don’t know how.
You have loads of questions about “why your dog chases ?”but you don’t know who to ask or where to go to train.

I have trained with Simone Mueller who is the Predation Substitute Lead. Her teaching methods are about giving your dog an opportunity to learn through “ a motivation-based and need-oriented training program, designed to stop uncontrolled predatory chasing and to provide safe outlets for your dog’s natural predatory energy.
We start with management and prevention and then build the tools to help you and your dog. She explains that “predation is a behaviour chain consisting of several parts that merge into each other and that are intrinsically reinforcing for your dog. They include orientation in the environment, stalking, creeping towards prey, chasing, grab-biting, kill-biting, possessing, dissecting, and consuming.”
Learning to harness your dog’s desire to chase is imperative as it has the potential to cause death or injury to your dog and others.
All dogs have the potential to chase joggers, bikes, children, wildlife, livestock, cats and every dog’s favourite, the squirrel.
Some breeds are more movement driven than others.
We can, however, teach them safer and alternative behaviours that fulfil their needs and make your walks more fun and enjoyable.
Discover how to support your dog with new learning through training games that prevent your dog from chasing; what to do if they’ve already experienced the thrill of a chase and how to make training fun and effective while out on your walks.

At no time will any livestock or wildlife will be put in danger or under the slightest duress.
